Reflection
While I was only in Ms. Bryen’s classroom for a short period of time, I learned so much by observing Ms. Bryen’s teaching methods and lessons. From the days when she was my teacher in high school, I was already familiar with Ms. Bryen’s lessons and way of teaching; but through this observation process, I was able to focus on the smaller details that make her so effective as a teacher. I learned the importance of knowing of my students, and creating lessons that will meet the needs of all my students; I learned the value of creative lesson plans that will truly engage my students and prompt them to interact with the material; and I learned that proper organization is necessary to be effective and efficient as a teacher.
By teaching my own lesson, I recognized the importance all of the teaching methods, techniques, etc. that we have learned throughout the semester. Teaching—that is, good teaching—requires hard work and dedication to your students. Through this lesson, by coming up with thematic questions, finding appropriate texts, and creating effective questions, I have learned so much about what it takes to be a good teacher. More than anything, teaching my own lesson was a valuable learning experience, and has helped prepare me for my own teaching career.
